‘My son Abhishek is worthy of praise,’ says Amitabh Bachchan

As actor Abhishek Bachchan completes 25 years in the Hindi film industry this month, his father, megastar Amitabh Bachchan, has taken to social media to shower admiration on his cinematic journey and versatility.

Quoting a fan-made video on X featuring a montage of Abhishek’s diverse roles over the decades, Amitabh wrote in Hindi:

“Is Variety ko mein pranam karta hoon, aur apne putra ki sarahna karta hoon. Jee haan, pita hoon main uska, aur mere liye mera putra Abhishek sarahna karne yogya hai.”

(“I bow to this variety and I praise my son. Yes, I’m his father, and for me my son Abhishek is worthy of praise.”)

The heartfelt tribute comes as the younger Bachchan marks a quarter-century since his debut in Refugee (2000), directed by J P Dutta. The war-romance drama also introduced Kareena Kapoor Khan and cast Abhishek as a silent Indian Muslim helping refugees traverse the India–Pakistan border in the salt marshes of Kutch.

Earlier this month, the senior Bachchan had penned a reflective note on his blog, expressing pride in his son’s choice of offbeat characters and unconventional roles.

“Each role he has accepted and played has been with immense dedication … he has ever delivered the character to perfection,” the veteran wrote. “His choice of films and roles has guided him to give him opportunity to try something different.”

Abhishek, known for performances in Yuva, Guru, Ludo, and Dasvi, has often chosen scripts outside the commercial formula, earning both critical and popular acclaim in different phases of his career.

He was last seen in Housefull 5, released on 6 June, where he starred alongside Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, Jacqueline Fernandez, Sonam Bajwa, and Nargis Fakhri. The film, part of the long-running Housefull comedy franchise, is currently running in theatres.

The bond between father and son has often been spotlighted in public, but Amitabh Bachchan’s open recognition of Abhishek’s career, without reservation, struck a chord with fans and cinephiles alike.
