Zero Day Season 1 X Review: Netizens Call Robert De Niro’s Netflix Series ‘Muddy’ and ‘Boring’

Zero Day X Review: Netflix drops a new political conspiracy drama starring the legendary Robert De Niro. The show premiered on February 20, 2025, and X (formerly Twitter)  users didn’t wait to share their opinions. The high-stakes story is about a massive cyberattack that throws the US into chaos. De Niro plays George Mullen, a former US president brought back to lead an investigation into the attack.

Looking at the reviews seems like some viewers are hooked, while others are left scratching their heads or worse, bored. One user bluntly tweeted, “Zero Day was a badly written, badly structured political thriller. Disjointed and rushed.”

Another user warned, “Don’t bother with Zero Day… trust me on this. Intriguing premise and an inexplicably impressive cast completely wasted on an increasingly tedious, often nonsensical conspiracy plot. I barely made it to the end.”

Some viewers recognised the show’s potential but noted its shortcomings. “More a conspiracy thriller than a political one, Zero Day is good enough to keep watching. A bit too convoluted, with too many chess pieces that it ends up not as thrilling and interesting as it could have been with a tighter narrative,” one person observed.

However, not all feedback is negative. Some fans praised the show enthusiastically. One tweet exclaimed, “Zero Day is absolutely amazing with an absorbing political plot. Lesli Linka Glatter is a veteran director who projects her intentions to perfection. Robert De Niro, as we are accustomed to, appears to eat up the screen with a cast that is undoubtedly outstanding.”

The series begins with a catastrophic cyberattack named ‘Zero Day’, which paralyses the nation’s computer systems, triggering widespread blackouts and chaos. Over 3,400 people lose their lives in the aftermath, and panic spreads rapidly. George Mullen (Robert De Niro), a former president, is summoned by the current President, Evelyn Mitchell (Angela Bassett), to lead a commission investigating the incident. As Mullen delves into the case, he uncovers a tangled web of deceit, power struggles, and political intrigue.

The show features an outstanding cast, including Jesse Plemons, Lizzy Caplan, and Gaby Hoffmann, who portrays Monica Kidder, a tech billionaire whose company, Panoply, is tied to the attack.
