'Your legacy will continue to inspire generations': Mohammed Shami bids farewell to Wriddhiman Saha

NEW DELHI: Following Wriddhiman Saha‘s retirement from all forms of cricket, fast bowler Mohammed Shami of India thanked the wicket-keeper batter for making an “indelible mark” on the sport.
On the second day of their Ranji Trophy match against Punjab at Eden Gardens on Friday, Saha was given a guard of honor by his teammates.

“Today we bid farewell to a true legend of Indian cricket, Wriddhiman Saha.His brilliant glove work and countless memorable moments, both on and off the field, have left an indelible mark. From the Ranji Trophy to the national team, his dedication and passion have inspired us all. Wishing you the best in your next chapter, Wriddhiman. Your legacy will continue to inspire generations!”

Saha has amassed 7,169 runs at an average of 48.68 in 141 First-Class games, with 44 fifties and 14 hundreds. The 40-year-old last represented India at the Wankhede Stadium in December 2021 against New Zealand.
Saha played in 40 Test matches and nine ODIs for the national team, accumulating 1,353 runs at an average of 29.41.
Saha has participated in every IPL season since 2008, although missing the IPL 2025 auction. His recent team, the Gujarat Titans, won the championship in 2022.
He has also played for Sunrisers Hyderabad, Chennai Super Kings, Punjab Kings, and Kolkata Knight Riders over the years. In the 2014 final, he memorably struck a century for the Punjab Kings.
The 40-year-old had declared during the current Ranji Trophy season that he was retiring from all forms of cricket.
“After a cherished journey in cricket, this season will be my last. I’m honoured to represent Bengal one final time, playing only in the Ranji Trophy before I retire. Let’s make this season one to remember!” Saha had posted on the social media platform ‘X’.
