Women's World Cup: One lakh each! After Rs 2.25 crore payout to players, Maharashtra govt rewards 11 Team India support staff

NEW DELHI: The Maharashtra government announced a cash reward of Rs 11 lakh each for the 11 support staff members of the Indian women’s cricket team through a government resolution dated November 28. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis honoured team members Smriti Mandhana, Jemimah Rodrigues, and Radha Yadav with cash rewards of Rs 2.25 crore each for their World Cup performances. Coach Amol Muzumdar received a cheque of Rs 22.5 lakh.

The Indian women’s cricket team secured their first World Cup title under Harmanpreet Kaur’s leadership. They defeated South Africa by 52 runs in the 2025 World Cup final at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on November 2.The historic victory ended India’s long wait for a world title after previous disappointments in 2005 and 2017. Shafali Verma scored 87 runs from 78 balls in the final match.Deepti Sharma contributed with both bat and ball, scoring 58 runs and taking five wickets for 39 runs. She became the first Indian to achieve a five-wicket haul in a Women’s World Cup final.Richa Ghosh and captain Harmanpreet Kaur added 34 and 20 runs respectively, helping India reach a total of 298 runs for 7 wickets. This was the second-highest total in a Women’s World Cup final.South Africa’s Laura Wolvaardt scored a century with 101 runs, but it wasn’t enough to secure victory. India’s spin bowling attack and crucial run-outs by Shafali and Deepti helped seal the win.The victory showcased the team’s all-round performance and the strong partnership of India’s opening pair. This World Cup triumph is expected to enhance the popularity of women’s cricket in India.
