Why Did Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency Fail At Box Office? Kannada Actress Ramya Shares Shocking Reason

Kangana Ranaut was last seen in the political drama Emergency which featured her as the lead actress and was also directed by her. After multiple delays, the film hit the big screens in early January but failed to make big bucks at the box office. Kannada actress turned politician Ramya has now opined on the reason behind the film’s failure.

Speaking at the Bengaluru International Film Festival, Kannada actress-turned-politician Ramya explained, “Emergency was a badly made film. Kangana Ranaut is a very talented actress and it has nothing to do with her as a person. But that movie was bad and that is why the audience rejected it. Kangana also made Manikarnika and that was a hit because the content was good and the audience liked it.” Her comments have gone viral on social media but Kangana Ranaut is yet to react to the same.

The film is set during the Emergency in the 1970s imposed by the late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. It promises to offer a gripping exploration of one of the most spoken-about chapters in Indian democracy. Kangana Ranaut wrote, directed, and headlined the film, which marks her second directorial after Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi.

The film features a powerful ensemble cast, including Anupam Kher, Mahima Chaudhary, Milind Soman, Shreyas Talpade, Vishak Nair, and the late Satish Kaushik. Each actor plays a pivotal role in bringing the era’s nuanced political and personal dynamics to the screen. Produced by Zee Studios, Manikarnika Films and Renu Pitti, Emergency has its music composed by Sanchit Balhara and G.V. Prakash Kumar, with dialogues and screenplay crafted by Ritesh Shah. Emergency released January 17.
