Who is Hardev Virdee? Indian-origin finance expert appointed Chief Strategy Officer at UK's Met police

An Indian-origin finance expert has been appointed as the new Chief Strategy and Investment Officer at Metropolitan Police.Hardev Virdee previously served as Group Chief Financial Officer at Barts Health NHS Trust and has spent more than a decade working in senior finance roles across the National Health Service, including positions at Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust and Wandsworth CCG.The appointment was announced on Tuesday, with the Met Police saying Virdee will help lead the force’s long-term strategy, investment and commercial planning during a period of financial pressure and organisational reform.“I am delighted to be joining the Met at such an important time,” Virdee said, as quoted by PTI.“Having worked in the NHS for many years, I am excited to continue my commitment to public service. This is a challenging role, and I look forward to working closely with colleagues and partners to deliver the Met’s vision and bolster investments and resource to support the Met’s frontline policing.”Mark Rowley, Commissioner of the Met Police, welcomed the appointment and praised Virdee’s leadership and financial expertise.“I am looking forward to welcoming Hardev to the Met bringing his expertise, energy, and insight to support officers and staff,” Rowley said.“He was hugely impressive in the selection process.”Rowley added that Virdee’s experience in strategic leadership and organisational transformation would help the police force continue reforms while working to close a significant financial gap.Virdee is also vice-president of the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy and is expected to become the organisation’s president later this year.
