The incident came off the final ball of the opening over of MI New York’s chase. De Kock pushed the ball back towards Maxwell and casually wandered out of his crease while backing up. The Washington Freedom captain spotted the opportunity instantly.Showing exceptional awareness and quick reflexes, Maxwell gathered the ball and, in one smooth motion, flicked an underarm throw between his legs at the non-striker’s end. The ball crashed into the stumps with De Kock stranded well short of his ground. The South African wicketkeeper-batter could only watch in disbelief as he was run out for just one run off one ball. The dismissal left MI New York in early trouble and handed Washington Freedom the perfect start in their defence of a massive total.
