Thick black smoke filled the skyline over Manhattan on Friday morning after a major explosion rocked the Upper East Side. Videos circulating on social media showed plumes of smoke rising into the sky as firefighters rushed to the scene.The fire broke out around 10 am local time near 305 East 95th Street, close to Central Park. More than 100 firefighters and EMS personnel responded.The New York City fire department confirmed they were battling a fire, writing on X: “FDNY members are currently operating at a 3-alarm fire at 305 East 95th Street in Manhattan.” Deputy assistant chief James Canty said three firefighters suffered minor injuries, according to the Mirror. The building superintendent, who was in the basement at the time, is also being treated for a minor injury.Officials said the fire started on the roof and spread to the cockloft and three penthouses. The cause of the blaze is still under investigation. The explosion comes just a day after a tragic accident in the city, where a man died after being run over by his wife in a car park. Crews have largely brought the fire under control.
