India’s chase of 225 in the first Youth ODI against Australia U19 at the Ian Healy Oval, Brisbane, had a familiar spark on Sunday as 14-year-old opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi once again showed his power-hitting and ease with which he slams boundaries. Walking out to open, Suryavanshi attacked the Australian bowling attack from the very start, firing boundaries at will. His 38-run knock came off just 22 deliveries, featuring seven fours and a towering six. The teenager’s assault saw him take on Hayden Schiller and Charles Lachmund, who both found themselves under pressure in the opening overs. India, needing 225 for victory, got off to a fiery start with Suryavanshi and skipper Ayush Mhatre . Earlier, Mhatre (6) and Vihaan Malhotra (9) fell cheaply after Suryavanshi’s dismissal, meaning India lost 3 wickets before they crossed the 100-run mark.

Australia’s innings had been built around a gritty 77 not out from John James, who held the lower order together after early wickets. Henil Patel (3/38) and Kishan Kumar (2/59) led the bowling attack for India, while Kanishk Chouhan chipped in with two strikes as well.
