Sharjah’s Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA) has introduced nine new buses meeting Euro 5 emission standards, increasing the emirate’s total bus fleet to 138. This move is part of SRTA’s ongoing plan to modernise public transport, meet rising demand, and support Sharjah’s vision for environmentally friendly, efficient, and sustainable transportation.

Sharjah strengthens public transport with environmentally friendly fleet expansion

The SRTA has added nine advanced buses to its public transport network, all compliant with the Euro 5 exhaust emissions standard. This addition raises the total number of buses in Sharjah to 138, reinforcing the authority’s commitment to providing high-quality, environmentally responsible transport options.Engineer Yousef Khamis Al Othmani, Chairman of SRTA, highlighted that this fleet expansion is a direct response to the emirate’s population growth and the corresponding increase in demand for reliable public transport services. He explained that these new buses feature modern technologies aimed at enhancing fuel efficiency and lowering harmful emissions. These Euro 5 buses represent a crucial step in the authority’s long-term plan to maintain a sustainable transport system that supports environmental safety and air quality preservation. They demonstrate SRTA’s ongoing dedication to reducing the carbon footprint and curbing pollution caused by vehicles while simultaneously improving operational efficiency.

Commitment to passenger comfort and service excellence in Sharjah

Al Othmani stressed that the new buses are designed to provide safe, reliable, and comfortable travel experiences. This aligns with Sharjah Government’s broader vision to promote environmentally friendly practices and offer sustainable transportation solutions that serve the community’s needs and support comprehensive urban development.Furthermore, SRTA is undertaking an integrated approach to public transport development that involves modernising and expanding its fleet to match the emirate’s urban expansion and population increase. The emphasis on environmentally friendly vehicles forms a fundamental pillar of this strategy, aimed at making public transport the preferred mode of daily travel.By investing in comfortable and reliable buses that meet international standards, the authority also aims to encourage a culture of public transport usage within the community. This is expected to reduce private vehicle reliance, ease traffic congestion, improve traffic flow, and consequently enhance the local economy and quality of life.

Enhancing public confidence and service quality: SRTA’s ongoing efforts

Abdulaziz Al Jarwan, Director of Transport Affairs at SRTA, described the new buses as a qualitative upgrade to the emirate’s public transport sector. He emphasized the authority’s continuous efforts to improve fleet efficiency by incorporating the latest safety features and convenience measures into public vehicles.Al Jarwan also reaffirmed SRTA’s commitment to elevating the quality of operational services. The goal is to increase passenger satisfaction and boost confidence in the public transport system, making it a more attractive and dependable option for daily commuters.
