Tilak Varma jumps to second place in ICC T20 rankings, Varun Chakravarthy fifth among bowlers

In the latest ICC T20 rankings, Tilak Varma climbed one place to second spot among the batters while Varun Chakravarthy, who took a fifer in the third match against England in Rajkot, jumped 25 places to fifth among the bowlers.
Australia’s Travis Head continued to lead the batter rankings, with a 23-point lead now, Varma is hot on his heels following scores of 19*, 72* and 18 in the three matches against England.

He could overtake Head with good scores during the final two matches of the series, with Head currently involved in the Test format.
If Varma does manage to go past Head, he will become the youngest player to top the rankings. The current record for that is held by Pakistan’s Babar Azam, who became the No. 1-ranked T20I batter at the age of just 23 years and 105 days.
Varma’s current tally of 832 points are the fourth-best by an Indian batter, bettered only by Suryakumar Yadav, Virat Kohli, and KL Rahul.
In the bowling charts, spinner Chakravarthy registered a five-wicket haul and made the biggest jump from an Indian perspective. Axar Patel is just outside the top 10 after moving up five spots to 11th on the list.
The biggest development, though, was with Adil Rashid re-claiming the World No. 1 spot among the bowlers. Rashid first took the top spot at the end of 2023 and remained in that position for much of last year until fellow spinner Akeal Hosein overtook him.
After three economical shows against India, he’s gained one place to return to the pinnacle of T20I bowlers. The 36-year-old has taken three wickets across three matches in India.
