Samantha Ruth Prabhu chooses peace over box office pressure

Samantha Ruth Prabhu is no longer measuring her worth by the numbers at the box office.

At a recent event in Delhi, the actor opened up about how living with myositis, an autoimmune condition affecting her muscles, has shifted her priorities and outlook towards life. She admitted that allowing her health to take precedence over her career has only made her stronger.

“The previous version of me probably had five films releasing in a year because that was the symbol of a successful actor… you needed to have five films, a big blockbuster, you had to be on the list of top 10 actors. That was needed to be endorsing the biggest multinational brands. Today, I haven’t had a film release in two years, I am not on any lists. I don’t have 1000-crore film, but I am the happiest I have ever been,” she said addressing the pressures that actors face in the entertainment industry.

The actor, whose last film ‘Kushi’ was released in 2023, added that the old version of herself “scared” her. “I was so fragile. Every Friday would change and give me anxiety, that someone will claim my position tomorrow, I would be replaced. My whole self-worth was based on the calculator of that Friday.”

On the work front, Samantha is set to make a comeback with several big projects, including the fantasy-action Netflix series ‘Rakt Brahmand: The Bloody Kingdom’ and her first production venture ‘Bangaram’.
