India’s Brics chairship focuses on disaster preparedness, resilient logistics, startup collaboration and new opportunities for farmers.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said India has prepared a series of initiatives under its Brics chairship to strengthen cooperation among member countries in areas ranging from disaster management and logistics to startups and digital agriculture.
Addressing the 18th Brics Summit in New Delhi, Modi said the Early Warning Data Integration Guidelines have been prepared to strengthen disaster management and improve preparedness among Brics countries.
He said the Brics Logistics Supply Chain Operation Framework would help make supply chains more reliable and resilient, while the Brics Incubator Network would connect startups and incubators across member countries.
“To promote innovative and scalable solutions, we have proposed a Brics Startup Innovation Fund,” Modi said, highlighting India’s push to strengthen the grouping’s startup ecosystem.
Modi also said the Brics Network on Digital Agriculture would create new opportunities for farmers by promoting cooperation and digital solutions in agriculture.
The initiatives are part of India’s broader effort during its 2026 Brics chairship to make cooperation within the grouping more practical and focused on outcomes that can benefit businesses, farmers and communities.
Startups and technology
Modi also highlighted Brics Connect, an initiative focused on skills, women’s participation in the workforce, social security and capacity building.

The New Delhi Declaration backed wider cooperation in manufacturing, special economic zones, logistics, customs facilitation, railways, aviation and industrial upgrading.
Focus on trade barriers
The MSME push comes against the backdrop of growing concerns over trade barriers. The New Delhi Declaration expressed concern over unilateral tariff and non-tariff measures, warning that they could distort trade, disrupt global supply chains and increase uncertainty for businesses.
Brics reaffirmed its support for a rules-based multilateral trading system with the World Trade Organization at its core and called for greater representation of emerging markets in global economic institutions.
