NEW DELHI: Neeraj Chopra claimed his first Diamond League victory in two years, surpassing Germany’s Julian Weber after consecutive second-place finishes in Paris on Friday.Chopra secured the win with an impressive first-round throw of 88.16m in a competitive field featuring five athletes who have thrown over 90m. SUBSCRIBE NOW!Julian Weber secured second place with an opening throw of 87.88m, while Brazil’s Luiz Mauricio Da Silva took third with 86.62m in the third round. Earlier in May, Chopra had achieved a 90.23m throw at the Doha Diamond League, finishing second to Weber’s winning throw of 91.06m.Weber had previously outperformed Chopra at the Janusz Kusocinski Memorial meet in Poland on May 23, where both athletes competed in challenging weather conditions. Weber threw 86.12m while Chopra managed 84.14m.Chopra’s last Diamond League triumph was in Lausanne in June 2023, where he threw 87.66m. Since then, he had finished second in six Diamond League competitions until this victory.This marks Chopra’s first win in the Paris leg of the Diamond League series. His previous Paris appearance was in 2017 as a junior world champion, where he finished fifth with 84.67m.The two-time Olympic medalist began his 2025 season by winning an invitational meet in Potchefstroom, South Africa, throwing 84.52m in the category F event.Chopra’s upcoming schedule includes the Golden Spike athletics meet in Ostrava, Czech Republic, on June 24. Following that, the world champion will host and compete in the first-ever Neeraj Chopra Classic in Bengaluru on July 5, a World Athletics category A event.
