Only EV autos to be registered from January 1 – Firstpost

Delhi is set to significantly accelerate its transition to clean mobility, with only electric auto-rickshaws to be registered in the national capital from January 1 next year, according to an official familiar with the proposed EV policy.

The policy also mandates that all new two-wheelers registered from April 1, 2028, must be electric, marking another major step in Delhi’s push to curb vehicular emissions and improve air quality.

The proposed policy is expected to further strengthen EV adoption by gradually phasing out registrations of fossil fuel-powered vehicles in key segments. Auto-rickshaws, which form a large part of Delhi’s public transport network, will be among the first categories to transition entirely to electric vehicles.

The move aligns with the Delhi government’s broader clean mobility goals of reducing air pollution, lowering carbon emissions, and increasing the share of electric vehicles in new registrations. Further details of the policy, including implementation guidelines and incentives, are expected to be announced after its formal approval.
