All shops, offices and restaurants in Connaught Place have been advised to close by 6:30 pm on Thursday (July 23) following an advisory issued by the New Delhi Traders Association (NDTA), citing directions received from senior officials of the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) amid the prevailing situation in the area.
In an urgent circular issued on July 23, 2026, the NDTA said it had been “telephonically advised” by the Chairman and Vice Chairman of NDMC that all commercial establishments in Connaught Place should suspend operations by 6:30 pm.
“As advised by the Chairman NDMC and Vice Chairman NDMC, telephonically, looking at the critical situation around CP, it has been strictly advised that all shops and establishments, including offices and restaurants, in Connaught Place, New Delhi, shall close for the day by 6.30 pm, today that is 23.07.2026,” the advisory stated.
The traders’ body also urged all business owners and occupiers to cooperate with the directions.
“All establishment owners/occupiers are requested to cooperate and ensure strict compliance with the above directions to avoid any unpleasant situation and save yourself from any loss of property and injury,” the circular added.
The advisory has been signed by Atul Bhargava, president of the New Delhi Traders Association.
The circular, however, does not specify the exact nature of the “critical situation” that prompted the closure advisory. Authorities are yet to issue a detailed public statement explaining the circumstances behind the precautionary measure.
Commercial establishments in Connaught Place, one of Delhi’s busiest business and retail districts, were expected to comply with the advisory issued by the traders’ association following the communication from NDMC officials.
