MP Cong leader blackens face as promised; had claimed BJP will not bag even 50 seats in assembly polls – Firstpost

Congress leader Phool Singh Baraiya got his face blackened by senior party leader and former chief minister of Madhya Pradesh Digvijaya Singh outside the Raj Bhavan in Bhopal

Madhya Pradesh Congress leader Phool Singh Baraiya, who was confident of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) not winning more than 50 seats in the recently concluded Assembly polls, Thursday blackened his face, just to keep his words after his party’s poll debacle.

Baraiya had pledged to blacken his face if the BJP wins more than 50 seats in Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections 2023.

The Congress leader was proved wrong as the BJP registered a thumping victory in Madhya Pradesh by winning 163 seats in the 230-member Assembly.

Baraiya got his face blackened by senior party leader and former chief minister of Madhya Pradesh Digvijaya Singh on Thursday outside the Raj Bhavan in Bhopal.

Disgruntled by the defeat, Congress leaders in Madhya Pradesh staged a demonstration outside Raj Bhavan urging the Election Commission to stop the use of EVMs during polls.

Baraiya also smeared black ink on the posters showing EVM outside Raj Bhavan in Bhopal, in the presence of Congress leader Digvijaya Singh.

Baraiya claimed that during the ballot count Congress was ahead, but as soon as the EVM counting began, the BJP took the lead. Baraiya had also said he was confident that his party would win. However, Congress had to settle for just 66 seats.

The video of the Congress leader where he vows to blacken his face if BJP wins 50 seats has gone viral. Social media is now abuzz with discussions on whether the leader will keep his word.
