Justin Langer has undermined Rishabh Pant’s heroics that breached Australia’s Gabba “fortress” in 2021 and helped India win the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. His unbeaten 89, which helped India snatch a terrific win at Brisbane’s Gabba in 2021, is the stuff of legend.Chasing 324, India’s reply began with Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill at the crease. Gill laid a solid foundation with a fluent 91, but after his dismissal, the innings required someone to carry the charge forward. Rishabh Pant rose to the occasion, maintaining the tempo with his quick scoring and keeping India in the hunt.Langer, who was back then head coach of the Australian cricket team, described Pant as “fearless” for his heroics in the fourth Test and said it “reminded me of Ben Stokes’ innings at Headingley in Ashes 2019.”“It was an amazing effort. (Rishabh) Pant’s innings somewhat reminded me of Ben Stokes’ innings in Headingley actually. He came in, he was almost fearless and he will be lauded because of it. It was an unbelievable innings,” Langer had said after the match.Langer is currently the coach of the IPL team Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), whose captain is Rishabh Pant.

Poll

Should Justin Langer have credited Rishabh Pant more for his innings?

Langer was talking to Jos Buttler and Stuart Broad about the upcoming Ashes on Australian soil later this year.“Brisbane was always a cauldron for us and has been for years,” Langer said on “For the Love of Cricket” podcast.“We lost to India a couple of Test series ago. Rishabh Pant played an incredible innings at the Gabba. But it was also the fourth Test during Covid and it was the flattest wicket. That time of year in January was different from playing in November. We have lost that advantage,” he added.
