Jammu & Kashmir Cricket Association suspends president after 8-0 Apex Council vote

NEW DELHI: Jammu & Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) president Javid Ahmed Kitab has been suspended with immediate effect after the association’s Apex Council passed a unanimous resolution in favour of the move.The decision was finalised on June 25 and approved by an 8-0 majority vote. According to the notification, the resolution was circulated among eligible members of the Apex Council under Rule 23(i) of the JKCA Constitution. Since the matter concerned the conduct and suspension of the president, the resolution was not sent to Kitab. Instead, it was circulated among the remaining nine Apex Council members. Eight members voted in favour of the resolution, while one member did not communicate a decision.The notification said, “Accordingly, the Resolution stands duly passed by a majority of 8:0 in terms of Rule 23(i) read with Rule 48(6) of the Constitution of JKCA.”It further stated, “In terms of the said resolution, Javid Ahmed Kitab, president, Jammu & Kashmir Cricket Association, has been suspended with immediate effect.”The notification also said the resolution will carry the same force and validity as one passed during a properly convened Apex Council meeting. It will be placed before the council at its next meeting for ratification, as required under the constitution.The JKCA has also instructed all officials, employees, affiliated units and other functionaries of the association to “take all consequential steps for implementation of the resolution forthwith in accordance with the Constitution” of the association.
