India’s 7.8% growth puts US investment and tech ties in focus, says Vinay Kwatra

India’s ambassador to the US highlighted the economy’s strong first-quarter growth at Nasdaq, pitching deeper ties with American technology companies, investors and institutions as New Delhi pushes its global investment agenda.

Indian Ambassador to the US Vinay Kwatra highlighted India’s 7.8 per cent real GDP growth in the April-June quarter of FY27 while ringing the opening bell at Nasdaq, positioning the strong economic performance as a foundation for deeper India-US commercial and technology ties.

Kwatra said India continues to be the fastest-growing large economy, pointing to robust domestic demand, a growing entrepreneurial ecosystem, expanding digital capabilities and a young workforce as key drivers of the country’s transformation.

The Nasdaq ceremony came as India seeks to deepen economic engagement with the US across technology, digital infrastructure, investment, innovation and skilled professionals.

“One of the greatest pillars of our current and emerging partnership is the partnership with the companies in the community of technology leadership companies in Nasdaq,” Kwatra said, highlighting the role of technology firms, technology-linked capital, infrastructure and skilled talent.

India seeks deeper US business engagement

Kwatra said India wants to build on its growth momentum by strengthening engagement with American companies, investors and institutions.

“We look forward to an even stronger partnership with American businesses, investors and institutions,” he said.

The ambassador’s comments come against the backdrop of India’s broader push to attract global capital and strengthen its position as a major technology and digital economy hub. The government has increasingly sought to frame India’s growth story around not only its large domestic market but also its digital infrastructure, innovation ecosystem and expanding pool of skilled professionals.

The 7.8 per cent GDP growth in the first quarter of FY27 provides additional momentum to that pitch, reinforcing India’s position among the world’s fastest-growing major economies.

Nasdaq’s importance to the message was also significant, given its concentration of major technology and technology-linked companies. Kwatra said the opening-bell ceremony represented confidence in enterprise, innovation and the potential for stronger partnerships between Indian and American businesses.

In a post on X, Kwatra described the event as reflecting the “growing strength and promise” of the India-US partnership and pointed to Nasdaq-listed companies as key pillars of the relationship.

He was accompanied by Acting Consul General of India in New York Vishal Harsh and other Indian officials.

The ceremony also took place around the time of Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s US visit for the G20 finance ministers’ meeting, adding an investment and economic backdrop to India’s pitch for deeper US engagement.
