Indian-origin driver booked for alleged rape of unconscious passenger in California, bail set at $500,000

A rideshare driver, Simranjit Singh Sekhon, believed to be of Indian-origin, has been booked for the alleged rap of an unconscious passenger in November. According to Fox 11, Simranjit Singh picked up the victim in Thousand Oaks. The ride was marked as completed but Sekhon drove the victim around Camarillo, where he allegedly assaulted the drunk passenger who was not in senses. The investigation began in November when the Major Crimes Sexual Assault Unit received reports of the assault. Sekhon was arrested on December 15 and charged with the rape of an unconscious victim. His bail was set at $500,000. Detectives believe there may be additional victims who have not yet come forward, the report said. Cops have not disclosed the name of the rideshare company or any other details about the driver, his status in the country etc. They said Simranjit Singh is 35 years old and released his photo. The news came as Indian-origin drivers are under fire in the US and Canada for several other reasons, including traffic violations, getting a driver’s license without any test etc. “The female was intoxicated and unable to care for herself,” the police release stated. “After the completion of the ride, Sekhon drove the unconscious victim around Camarillo and sexually assaulted her.” California’s Dem Governor Gavin Newsom was slammed on social media as the incident took place in his state. “Foreign National, “Simranjit Singh Sekhon”, working as a rideshare driver in Gavin Newsom’s sanctuary California, just arrested for raping an unconscious passenger. Police believe there are more victims out there,” one post read.
