‘India needs indigenous stack of technologies,’ says Akash Ambani as Jio IPO marks new chapter for RIL

Reliance Jio chairman Akash Ambani said the company remains focused on building an indigenous technology ecosystem, keeping solutions affordable and expanding its satellite communication business as it prepares for its IPO.

Reliance Jio is viewing its proposed initial public offering (IPO) as the beginning of a new phase for the company, while continuing to focus on affordable technology and indigenous solutions, Akash Ambani, chairman of Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd, said.

Ambani said the Jio IPO carries significant responsibility, as it will be the first public issue from the Reliance group in nearly three decades. “We see the Jio IPO with great responsibility. This is the first public issue from the Reliance group in three decades,” Ambani said, according to Moneycontrol.

Calling the listing the “start of the journey”, Ambani indicated that Jio’s focus would remain on expanding its technology and consumer offerings while keeping affordability at the centre of its strategy.

“We will always play a part in being the most affordable for consumers,” he said.

Ambani also highlighted Jio’s push to develop an indigenous technology ecosystem, saying India needs its own technology stack rather than relying entirely on overseas solutions.

“We’ve always been believers that India needs its own indigenous stack of technologies; that’s the pivot we are making as a company,” Ambani said, as reported by Moneycontrol.

He added that Jio’s technology solutions would be designed with affordability in mind, particularly given the scale of India’s consumer market.

“Solutions will be the most affordable for a billion users in India,” Ambani said.

On satellite communications, Ambani said Jio is making progress on its plans and has already demonstrated its satellite communication solutions to the government.

“We just showcased our solutions for Sat Com to the minister; we are making good progress on the approvals,” he said.

Jio’s satellite communication ambitions come as India seeks to expand connectivity beyond traditional terrestrial networks and bring high-speed internet access to areas that remain difficult to serve through conventional infrastructure.
