ICC starts hunt for new CEO

NEW DELHI: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has floated the advertisement for a new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) after the global cricket body announced last month that Geoff Allardice will be stepping down from the role. Allardice was associated with the ICC for 13 years and was appointed the CEO in November 2021.

Multiple high-profile, and successful, tournaments were hosted during Allardice’s tenure but the USA leg of the 2024 T20 World Cup was a mess. The ICC even formed a three-member committee to review the delivery of the multi-nation event as a lot of questions were raised on the overshooting of budgets, lack of planning and poor playing conditions at the make-shift venue in New York.

Even before the report of the committee could be tabled, ICC Head of Events Chris Tetley and General Manager Marketing and Communications Claire Furlong resigned from their positions.
Anti Corruption Unit head Alex Marshall too announced his retirement. The ICC is now set to get a new CEO but it will only happen after the Champions Trophy culminates as the last date to submit applications is March 10.
New Head of Events and Comms
In another development, Gaurav Saxena is set to join the ICC as new Head of Events and will also lead the communications department of the global cricket body. He is currently General Manager, Operations of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
With Saxena taking up the role at ICC, former India cricketer Abey Kuruvilla, who is currently the General Manager, is all set to become the new GM, Operations.
