Indian right-arm seamer Harshit Rana achieved a unique milestone by becoming the first Indian bowler to claim three wickets on debut across all three formats during the first ODI against England at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium.
In his ODI debut innings, Harshit secured three wickets while conceding 53 runs in his seven-over spell, which included one maiden over.
His ODI career began with a challenging start as England’s Philip Salt dominated his third over, scoring 26 runs. After conceding 37 runs in his first three overs, Harshit was temporarily removed from the attack.
However, he made a strong comeback in his remaining four overs, taking three wickets and bowling a maiden over to finish with figures of 7-1-53-3.
Previously, Harshit had joined the Indian team as a concussion substitute for Shivam Dube during the fourth T20I against England at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, where he recorded figures of 4-0-33-3.
His Test debut came during the opening match of Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 against Australia in Perth, where he claimed three wickets for 48 runs in the first innings.
The 23-year-old’s international career includes two Tests and one T20I. His Test record shows four wickets at an average of 50.75, with best figures of 3/48. In his single T20I appearance, he took three wickets at an average of 11.00. His List-A career spans 14 matches with 22 wickets at an average of 23.45, including best figures of 4/17.
Rana’s T20I debut as a concussion substitute sparked discussions among fans and former cricketers. His match-winning performance drew criticism from England supporters, with captain Jos Buttler expressing his disapproval after the match.
