Yuzvendra Chahal and Dhanashree Verma were granted divorce by a family court in Bandra, Mumbai on Thursday, March 20. The estranged couple married in December 2020 and separated in June 2022. Social media has been buzzing ever since it was reported last year that the former pair was going through a rough phase in their marriage. As they were officially separated, internet users rushed online to share their views.
According to the details of their divorce, Chahal has paid ₹2.37 crore of the ₹4.75 crore alimony to his estranged wife Dhanashree. This contradicts old reports claiming that Dhanashree had demanded ₹60 crore as alimony for divorce settlement. The social media influencer and actress has often been targeted for the broken marriage, which fell apart in just a year and a half. Trolls have often labelled her a “gold digger” and “social climber” and such terms came back as their divorce became official.
Meanwhile, some came to her defense and called for similar scrutiny over Chahal’s alleged relationship with RJ Mahvash. A section of internet users called for “equal treatment” of the former couple post separation.

Another netizen wrote, “In the world full of cheating, break-ups, divorces, situationships, and much more. I’m choosing to stay alone forever (sic).”
The HC on Wednesday also waived the six-month cooling period stipulated for every couple after filing of the divorce plea under the Hindu Marriage Act. Under the law, a couple has to undergo a six-month cooling-off period before divorce is granted. The objective is to provide time for exploring the possibility of reconciliation.
