Former Pakistan cricketer slams Shahid Afridi over 'extremist' views, urges Indian media to deny him platform

Former Pakistan cricketer Danish Kaneria on Monday launched a scathing attack on ex-Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi, criticising his “extremist” views and calling for Indian media outlets to stop offering him a platform.
Kaneria’s remarks came after Afridi once again made controversial statements, blaming India for the recent terrorist attack at Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir, where at least 26 people – mostly tourists – lost their lives.

Reacting sharply to Afridi’s allegations against India and its army, Kaneria wrote, “He has consistently aligned himself with extremist views. In my opinion, he should not be given a platform on Indian television or within the country. Additionally, he tried to persuade me to convert to Islam and declined to share a meal with me, which I found deeply disrespectful.”

Kaneria’s revelations reignited discussions about Afridi’s controversial past behaviour, particularly his alleged attempts to coerce teammates into religious conversions.

Meanwhile, Afridi, speaking to Pakistani media, launched a vitriolic attack on India, saying, “The terrorists continued to kill people in Pahalgam for an hour, and not a single Indian soldier out of 8 lakhs showed up. But when they did, they blamed Pakistan.”

He further alleged that India orchestrates terror attacks on its own soil to malign Pakistan, stating, “India carries out terrorism itself, kills its own people, and then puts the blame on Pakistan.”
Afridi also criticised Indian media, accusing it of sensationalism and likening their coverage to “Bollywood storytelling” following the Pahalgam tragedy.
