First look at impressive new UK Wi-Fi router that should end your broadband woes

If your Wi-Fi still struggles to keep pace with your daily digital needs it seems help could soon be on its way. It appears that EE (which is now owned by BT) is readying the release of a speedy new router, and it could be exactly what some UK homes have been waiting for. Express.co.uk has spotted images of the upcoming device, which not only offers a more appealing look – made from recycled plastic – but also Wi-Fi 7 technology.

For those not in the know, Wi-Fi 7 is far superior to the Wi-Fi 4, 5 and 6 routers most homes have tucked in the corner of their living rooms.

This futuristic broadband technology can cope with faster speeds, lower latency and more devices connected to it simultaneously.

That makes these routers vital for busy homes that are packed with laptops, TVs, smart devices and people who work and play at home.

It’s also future-proofed for when we start needing even more high-bandwidth activities, such as 4K streaming and downloading huge files to consoles such as the PS5.

EE already offers a Wi-Fi 7 Smart WiFi Pro router, but that device is aimed at the more premium end of the market, with prices starting from £60.99 per month and speeds hitting 1.6Gbps.

It’s thought what’s coming next will be available on slightly cheaper and slower plans including EE’s 500Mbps and 900Mbps options which currently start from £35.99.

Customers currently signing up for those bundles get a standard router from EE rather than a Wi-Fi 7 upgrade.

Luckily, that should change later this year, although we don’t currently know when EE will officially start selling the new product.

We’ll update you as soon as we hear more.

News of this upcoming release comes hot on the heels of Sky, who has also recently announced its new Full Fibre 2.5 Gigafast+ and Full Fibre 5 Gigafast+ options.

These offer speeds of up to 5Gbps and also come with a new Wi-Fi 7 router.

As a quick guide, those with a 5Gbps connection would be able to download a full HD movie is under 10 seconds – that’s over 50 times faster than the UK average.
