Meanwhile, the All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) claimed that the fire broke out on the set of Colors’ reality show Pati Patni Aur Panga Season 2 at Prime Focus Studio in Film City. The association claimed that a large number of workers and artistes were present on the set when the fire broke out.
AICWA president Suresh Shyamlal Gupta alleged that adequate fire-safety measures were not in place on the set. He demanded a time-bound inquiry into the incident and an FIR for alleged negligence against the channel, producer and production house. The association also sought the resignation of the Managing Director of Film City.
Mumbai’s Film City Burns Again, and No One Is Held Accountable
Mumbai’s Film City is burning again, and as always, no one is being held accountable. Fire after fire, year after year, thousands of workers and artists are pushed into danger by channels, producers and production houses that refuse to spend on basic fire safety to save a few rupees. The sets go up in flames, the poor workers pay the price, and those who profit walk away without a single consequence. Fires in Film City are not accidents. They are the result of greed, negligence and a system that has never punished the guilty. Unless accountability is fixed at the top, these fires will keep coming, and so will the loss of innocent lives.

“This is not an accident, it is criminal negligence. Every day thousands of workers and artists put their lives at risk on these sets. When a fire breaks out, the people who suffer are the poor workers, not the channels and producers who profit. This cannot go on. Accountability must be fixed at the top, and those responsible must face the law,” Gupta said.

Suresh Shyamlal Gupta has also written to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis regarding the incident. AICWA urged the government to make fire audits, on-set fire-safety staff and firefighting equipment mandatory for every shoot in Film City. It also demanded that licences of productions that fail to comply with fire-safety norms be cancelled.
