Comedy Or Calumny? Kunal Kamra’s ‘Gaddar’ Insult At Eknath Shinde Triggers Shiv Sena Fury, Studio Vandalised In Retaliation

Comedian Kunal Kamra has triggered a row after launching a scathing attack against Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde during his show. Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) MLA Murji Patel lodged a complaint against him at the MIDC police station. The party has demanded immediate arrest of the comedian and strict action to be taken against him.

The comedian’s comments were met with severe backlash by the members of Shiv Sena who vandalized the studio where Kunal Kamra was performing. The show was recorded in the same studio as Samay Raina’s India’s Got Latent, which sparked nationwide outrage last month for lewd and perverted comments made by a panellist on one of the episodes. Shivsena workers reached at the studio and vandalized it.

Shiv Sena spokesperson Krishna Hegde strongly condemned the comments made by the comedian and said, “Kunal Kamra’s upbringing seems extremely poor, he has been banned in airlines, is abusive and uncouth and police should take strong action against such habitual offenders.”

The Shiv Sena has lodged a criminal complaint against Kunal Kamra and in their complaint has also identified Sanjay Raut, Rahul Gandhi and Aaditya Thackeray as accused for their ‘alleged involvement in a pre-planned criminal conspiracy and a systematic paid campaign to malign the reputation, image and goodwill of the Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Eknath Shinde’.

On March 23, Kunal Kamra took to his X (formerly Twitter) account to share a video from one of his performances. In the clip, the 36-year-old can be heard mocking the events surrounding Maharashtra politics by fitting it in the lyrics of the song from the film Dil Toh Pagal Hai. In a caricaturish manner, the comedian described the Deputy CM of the state and called him a traitor. “Meri nazar se tum dekho to gaddar nazar wo aaye. Haaye!” was a line from his act. He was seemingly referring to the split of Shiv Sena faction into two –  the Shinde faction and the Uddhav Thackeray faction.
