Colombia President Gustavo Petro shrugs off US cancellation of his visa

Colombia’s President Gustavo Petro shrugged off the Trump administration’s decision to revoke his visa after he participated in a pro-Palestine protest on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York this week.“I no longer have a visa to travel to the US. I don’t care,” Petro said in an X post on Saturday morning. He added that he doesn’t need it anyway because he also claims Italian citizenship and “in reality I consider myself a free person of the world.” The US state department said Friday it will cancel Petro’s visa as a result of “reckless and incendiary actions.”Colombian political risk consultant Sergio Guzman said on X that “the visa issue is politically useful because it not only creates a sense of him (Petro) being punished for bravely speaking out despite the consequences, but that he is also a victim of persecution”.
