Athletics: Indian athletes shine at Taiwan Open; Vithya Ramraj, Rohit Yadav, Pooja, Krishan Kumar bag gold medals

NEW DELHI: At the Taiwan Open international athletics event’s final day, three-time national champion Vithya Ramraj led the Indian contingent’s successful campaign alongside Rohit Yadav, Pooja and Krishan Kumar, each securing gold medals in their respective events.Yashas Palaksha achieved a personal best of 42.22s, earning silver in the men’s 400m hurdles, boosting his morale after failing to qualify for the 2025 Asian Championships.Vithya secured gold in the women’s 400m hurdles with 56.53s, her third-best performance this year, gaining valuable ranking points for the forthcoming World Championships. The Tamil Nadu athlete specialises in 400 metres hurdles, 400 metres and 4×400 metres relay.

Her previous notable timings include 56.04s at the Federation Cup final and 56.46s at the Asian Championship final.In men’s javelin, Rohit secured gold with a 74.42m throw. Taipei’s Huang Shih-Feng claimed silver with 74.04m, whilst his countryman Cheng Chao-Tsun took bronze with 73.95m.

Pooja established a championship record of 2:02.79s in the women’s 800m final, surpassing fellow Indian Twinkle Chaudhary, who finished second with 2:06.96s.In a remarkable comeback, Krishan Kumar won the men’s 800m final, setting a new championship record of 1:48.46s.
