Apple’s latest Magic Mouse is currently less than £60 in rare Amazon sale

So you have a MacBook, but do you have a mouse? If you’ve been struggling hunched over your Apple laptop using the trackpad for all your pointing, clicking and dragging needs, you might do well to invest in a quality mouse.

There are thousands of options available but the go-to choice for Apple fans is the latest Magic Mouse, the company’s low-profile white mouse with minimalist design. It usually retails for £79 – the price it currently costs from the Apple Store – but in a rare Amazon discount, you can currently pick up the Apple Magic Mouse for just £59 in what the retailer says is a “limited time deal”.

This is the newest version of the Magic Mouse with USB-C charging. Older models first required double-A batteries and then gained a Lightning port for topping up the power, but now USB-C is the port of choice for this wireless Apple gadget. Apple says you’ll get about a month of mousin’ out of a full charge.

It connects to your MacBook, Mac or iPad via Bluetooth and though it looks very plain in design, the mouse is hiding a great deal of functionality under its shell. This is mostly down to the Multi-Touch sensors underneath the entire top of the plastic upper that lets you scroll up and down with swipes, as well as scroll side to side on large screens filled with webpages or those intricate spreadsheets.

Despite the minimal look, you can left and right click or even simply tap to click, pulse it’s a rare mouse that can be used left or right handed thanks to its symmetrical design. It’s not the most ergonomic though, so steer clear if you suffer from wrist pain when using a mouse.

I’ve used a Magic Mouse extensively over the years, and it’s one of the few that’s comfortable to use without a mouse mat on desk surfaces. That’s down to the two black rails on the bottom of the mouse that let it glide easier.

The bottom is also made from aluminium for a bit of metallic premium feel, something you don’t often find on a mouse.

Thanks to easy pairing, if you have a couple of Macs or a Mac and an iPad, you need only buy one Magic Mouse and use it with both devices. You can even link an iPad to a Mac to use as a second screen, with the mouse easily helping you drag and drop files and windows between the two.

Apple never directly discounts any of its products on its own website unless they are refurbished items. That’s why it’s notable when brand new Apple gadgets see decent discounts from third party retailers.

While £20 doesn’t sound like a huge dip, £59 for the newest Apple Magic Mouse is a very solid deal. It’s only on for a limited time according to Amazon, and you don’t even need Amazon Prime to access the deal.

If you prefer a black Magic Mouse, which usually costs £99, that version is also on sale for £79 from Amazon.
