Amazon India to hire 1.6 lakh temporary workers ahead of festive season


Amazon India is expanding its seasonal workforce across 400-plus cities to handle a surge in ecommerce and quick-commerce orders during the festive season

Amazon India said on Wednesday that it has created more than 1.6 lakh seasonal work opportunities across the country ahead of the festive season, as it prepares for an expected surge in ecommerce and quick-commerce orders.

The seasonal workforce will support operations including picking, packing, shipping and delivery of customer orders. Amazon said the opportunities span more than 400 cities, covering major metros as well as Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities such as Varanasi, Kochi, Jalandhar, Ghaziabad, Ranchi, Salem and Gorakhpur.

Amazon said the majority of the seasonal associates have already been onboarded and trained ahead of the festive rush. The company has also created opportunities for thousands of women and persons with disabilities as part of the expanded workforce.

“This expanded workforce will help us strengthen our fulfilment and logistics capabilities and ensure we can handle the festive season seamlessly,” said Abhinav Singh, vice president, Operations, Amazon India.

Amazon India has fulfilment centres across 15 states, with more than 43 million cubic feet of storage space for seller inventory. It also has sortation centres across 19 states and nearly 2,000 Amazon-operated and partner delivery stations.

The company has around 28,000 Hub delivery partners and thousands of Amazon Flex partners. Its operations network supports more than 1.7 million sellers across the country.

Amazon is also expanding its support infrastructure for delivery workers. It plans to increase its network of Ashray, air-conditioned rest centres for delivery drivers, to 250 by the end of 2026. It has also introduced Mobile Ashray vans in Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru.
