All Freeview users must check their TVs now as huge channel shake-up confirmed

Everyone with a Freeview telly or set-top box in their living room would be wise to check their settings as soon as possible. It’s just been confirmed that a major channel upgrade is taking place with over 10 changes coming to the TV planner. The big update, which should be available from today, includes three channels launching, three being renamed and one moving from its current position.

Sadly, there’s also some bad news with four current services closing their doors and being taken off the air for good.

“On 20th August 2025 some broadcasters are making changes to their channels,” Freeview confirmed in a blog post.

Here are all the changes happening from today.

• That’s Oldies – Ch 75

• Hobbycraft TV – Ch 97

• Pop Max – Ch 212

MOVES

• That’s Melody – WAS Ch 75 – NOW Ch 76

Freeview is now urging its users to check their settings and perform a retune if they don’t see the changes.

“You will need to retune to update your TV and keep your channels and TV Guide up to date,” the TV platform said in a post on its blog page.

“Channels are constantly evolving on Freeview with individual channels making the decision to move, add or remove channels. Freeview continues to ensure that audiences can enjoy a rich and varied content.”

Freeview has issued advice on how to retune devices, and here are the steps every user needs to follow.

• Press menu on your box or TV remote control

• Select ‘set-up’, ‘installation’, ‘update’ or a similar option. If you’re asked for a password, the default code is ‘1234’ or ‘0000’.

• Select ‘first-time installation’ (sometimes called ‘factory reset’, ‘full retune’ or ‘default settings’).

Press ‘OK’ if your equipment asks if it’s OK to delete existing channels and then your retune should start automatically. If you’re prompted to, save the channels that are found.

Freeview changes thing throughout the year but this latest release is one of its biggest in a while so it’s well worth following the advice and retuning as soon as possible.
