New Singapore–Christchurch route aims to boost tourism, education, and business travel demand from India to New Zealand
Air New Zealand has announced a major expansion of its network aimed at improving connectivity between India and New Zealand through Singapore, introducing a new direct Singapore–Christchurch route and increasing overall capacity during the upcoming peak travel season.
The airline said the move comes amid rising travel demand between India and New Zealand across tourism, education, business, and family travel segments. The new route complements Air New Zealand’s existing Auckland–Singapore services and is expected to provide Indian travellers with more seamless access to New Zealand.
The newly launched Christchurch service will operate three times a week and offer more than 34,000 seats during the season, significantly expanding travel options through Singapore.
Air New Zealand Chief Executive Officer Nikhil Ravishankar said the airline is witnessing strong demand in both directions and that the changes are designed to improve convenience and reduce travel friction.
“We’re seeing strong demand in both directions for travel between India and New Zealand, whether that’s for tourism, education, business or visiting family and friends,” Ravishankar said.
“By increasing capacity through Singapore, we’re making it easier for Indian travelers to get to New Zealand, with more choice, better connections and more efficient journey times,” he added.
The airline also highlighted that the Christchurch route creates easier access to New Zealand’s South Island, reducing the need for multiple connecting flights. From Christchurch and Auckland, passengers can access Air New Zealand’s domestic network connecting to 18 destinations across the country.
The Christchurch–Singapore services will be operated using Air New Zealand’s retrofitted Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft. The upgraded aircraft features redesigned Business Premier seating, a revamped Premium Economy experience, refreshed Economy cabins, and enhanced inflight entertainment aimed at improving long-haul travel comfort.
Flights are already on sale and are scheduled to operate from October 2026 through the Northern Winter season, subject to regulatory approvals.
Under the announced schedule, flights from October 28 to November 27, 2026, will operate on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. From November 30, 2026, through March 26, 2027, services will run on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, with a temporary Sunday operation in November.
The expansion reflects Air New Zealand’s broader strategy of strengthening Asia-Pacific connectivity while positioning Singapore as a key transit hub for Indian passengers travelling to New Zealand.
