'Absolutely not': Indian-origin Texas GOP chairman announces re-election bid, faces resistance

Abraham George, the Indian-origin Texas GOP chairman, announced his re-election for the post only to face stiff resistance on social media amid the present anti-Indian narrative in Texas. “Absolutely not. Read the writing on the wall — Texans do not want you,” George was told as his past brushes with the law were highlighted. “Absolutely not Texas…we have had enough. Who is running against him?” another comment read. “You’ve failed miserably. I’ll vote for anyone looking to replace you,” Abraham was trolled. Texas is seeing a strong pushback against two communities: Muslims and Indians. Texas Governor Greg Abbott designated the Muslim Brotherhood and the Council on American-Islamic Relations as foreign terrorist organizations. Recently, the governor announced a freeze on H-1B hiring in state agencies and universities. Though H-1B specialty workers can be from any country, one of the targets is India. Some Indian firms that hired H-1Bs in the past came under investigation as the Texas government sought their details from the companies. Given this situation, Abraham George is facing the heat because of his Indian origin. The 2023 incident of George confronting a man in front of his house with a loaded gun was also highlighted by his haters. The incident did not result in any injury or damage and George was not arrested. Reports claimed that he was in a fight with a man whom he suspected as having an affair with his wife. Later, George and his wife issued a statement slamming activist media outlets and said that like every family, they had some misunderstandings and disputes. George Abraham supported Texas’s move to freeze H-1B hiring, and in a recent interview, he said that the major issues for the Texas GOP are property taxes, illegal immigration, and the Islamification of Texas. H-1B scam and abuses in Texas are crazy, Abraham George said, adding that it would be a major issue for him.
