BlackRock, GIC, Fidelity: Who are the global investment giants betting on Jio’s Rs 30,213-crore IPO?

BlackRock, GIC and Fidelity are among the global heavyweights backing Jio Platforms, as anchor bids top Rs 2.5 lakh crore and strong QIB demand drives the IPO’s opening-day momentum.

Jio Platforms’ anchor book attracted bids worth more than Rs 2.5 lakh crore, over 30 times the amount on offer. On the first day of public bidding, the IPO was fully subscribed by 10:36 am, led by strong institutional demand, with the qualified institutional buyers (QIB) category subscribed 4.86 times, according to NSE data. Here is a look at the global investment heavyweights backing Mukesh Ambani’s digital giant.

India’s biggest-ever initial public offering (IPO) is attracting some of the world’s most influential investment institutions, with global asset managers and sovereign wealth funds competing for a stake in Reliance Industries-backed Jio Platforms.

The Rs 30,213-crore Jio Platforms IPO has drawn anchor investor bids worth more than Rs 2.5 lakh crore, or around $26 billion, with demand exceeding 30 times the amount reserved for the anchor book.

The strong response has put the spotlight on a roster of marquee investors, including BlackRock, Capital Group, Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund GIC, Fidelity Investments and the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA).

Jio Platforms allocated shares worth around Rs 8,110 crore to anchor investors at Rs 1,119 per share, the upper end of its price band. Other institutions allotted shares included Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), JPMorgan Asset Management, BNP Paribas and HDFC Bank.

The momentum continued when public bidding opened on October 21. According to NSE data, the IPO was fully subscribed by 10:36 am, with bids for 32.85 crore shares against 19.75 crore shares on offer, taking overall subscription to 1.66 times.

Institutional investors led the demand, with the QIB category subscribed 4.86 times. The non-institutional investor (NII) portion was subscribed 68 per cent, while the retail investor category attracted bids equivalent to 48 per cent of the shares reserved for it at that time.

The strong opening-day response adds to the enthusiasm generated by the anchor book and reinforces the scale of investor interest in Jio’s market debut.

BlackRock: The world’s largest asset manager

BlackRock is one of the most influential names in global finance, managing investments across equities, bonds, exchange-traded funds and other asset classes.

Its participation puts Jio Platforms on the radar of a major global investment institution as the Indian company prepares to enter the public markets.

BlackRock’s investment activities span developed and emerging markets, making its participation noteworthy for an offering of Jio’s size.

Capital Group: A major player in long-term investing

Capital Group is a prominent US-based investment management firm known for its long-term investment approach and actively managed funds.

Its presence among investors bidding for Jio’s anchor allocation adds another major global asset manager to the offering’s investor roster.

For a company positioning itself as a technology and digital services business, attracting established investment managers is an important milestone as it enters the listed market.

GIC: Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund

GIC manages Singapore’s foreign reserves and invests internationally across public equities, private markets, real estate and other asset classes.

Its participation brings a sovereign wealth fund with a global investment mandate into Jio’s anchor book.

GIC’s investment portfolio spans multiple geographies and sectors, making its interest relevant to the broader story of international institutional capital flowing into India’s equity markets.

Fidelity Investments: A global investment heavyweight

Fidelity Investments is a major financial services company offering investment management, brokerage and retirement-related services.

Its participation adds another established international investment institution to Jio Platforms’ anchor investor base.

Fidelity’s presence alongside other global asset managers highlights the breadth of institutional interest surrounding the offering.

Abu Dhabi Investment Authority: Middle Eastern sovereign capital

The Abu Dhabi Investment Authority is a sovereign wealth fund that invests on behalf of the government of Abu Dhabi across global markets and asset classes.

Its participation highlights the role of Middle Eastern institutional capital in India’s large corporate offerings.

For Jio, the presence of a major sovereign investor adds to the international profile of its IPO.

Indian institutions are also part of Jio’s anchor book

The investor interest is not limited to overseas institutions.

LIC, India’s state-owned insurance giant, was among the investors allotted shares. JPMorgan Asset Management, BNP Paribas and HDFC Bank were also among the institutions named in reports on the anchor allocation.

The mix of domestic financial institutions, global asset managers and sovereign wealth funds gives Jio’s anchor book a broad institutional profile.

Anchor investors receive allocations ahead of the opening of public bidding. Their participation can help establish early institutional demand and provide a useful indication of investor appetite for an IPO.

Why are investors looking at Jio Platforms?

Jio Platforms operates across telecom connectivity, digital services, enterprise technology, broadband, cloud computing and artificial intelligence.

Its telecom business has transformed India’s mobile market since Jio entered the sector in 2016 with free voice calls and low-cost data. The company now serves more than 500 million subscribers, according to reports.

Jio is also seeking to expand beyond traditional connectivity into technology-led services, including cloud infrastructure and AI. These businesses could create additional growth opportunities as the company develops its digital ecosystem.

Its financial performance adds to the investment case. Jio Platforms reported revenue from operations of Rs 1.46 lakh crore in FY26, compared with Rs 1.28 lakh crore in FY25. Net profit increased to Rs 30,049 crore from Rs 26,109 crore over the same period.

The IPO values Jio Platforms at approximately Rs 10.3 lakh crore, or around $108 billion, at the upper end of the price band.

The offering is also significant for Reliance Industries, marking its first major public issue in roughly two decades.

What does the strong subscription mean for Jio’s IPO?

The strong anchor book and rapid subscription on the first day of public bidding highlight the scale of institutional and investor interest in Jio Platforms.

Bids worth more than Rs 2.5 lakh crore for an anchor allocation of around Rs 8,110 crore indicate substantial competition for the shares available to institutional investors.

The public issue’s overall subscription of 1.66 times by 10:36 am, led by the QIB category’s 4.86-times subscription, adds another positive signal to the IPO’s early performance.

For Jio Platforms, the offering represents an opportunity to bring its telecom and digital services businesses into the public market and establish a listed valuation for one of India’s largest technology-led enterprises.
