Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani Director Ayan Mukerji’s Father, Veteran Actor Deb Mukherjee Dies At 83



Ayan Mukerji’s father Deb Mukerjee passed away today, ie, on March 14 at the age of 83. He was hospitalised earlier as he was unwell for quite some time. The veteran actor’s funeral will take place today evening at Pawan Hans, Mumbai. 

Instagram user Viral Bhayani took to his account and shared the heartbreaking news with clip. Along the video, he wrote in the caption, “We have every year covered North Mumbai Durga Puja pandal and every year it is Deb Mukherjee who was the driving force. We are deeply saddened to inform you of the passing of Deb Mukherjee*, (an actor and driving force of the North Bombay Durga Puja. He left us this morning, and his cremation is scheduled for today, *March 14, 2025, at 4:00 PM IST*. The ceremony will take place at the Pawan Hans Crematorium in Juhu, Mumbai. Om Shanti”.

Netizens took to comment section and paid their tribute to the veteran actor. One user wrote, “Om Shanti”. Another user wrote, “Rip, Om shanti”. “Yes he’s always the main figure there, may he rest in peace”, wrote the third user.

For the unversed, every year during Durga Puja celebrations, Deb was always seen at the North Bombay Durga Puja pandal, along with Rani Mukerji and Kajol.

Deb Mukerjee was part of the famous Mukherjee-Samarth family. His father was Sashadhar Mukherjee, the owner of Filmalaya studios, who produced 1960 film Love in Shimla. His mother, Satidevi Mukherjee, was the only sister of Ashok Kumar, Anup Kumar and Kishore Kumar. His brothers were Joy Mukherjee, a successful actor in the 1960s and Shomu Mukherjee, the husband of actress Tanuja. His nieces are actresses Kajol and Tanisha. Other members of his family include Rani Mukerji and Sharbani Mukherjee.

He has been part of several films including Aansoo Ban Gaye Phool, Adhikar, Zindagi Zindagi, Baaton Baaton Mein, Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander and Aasoo Bane Angaarey among others. The veteran actor was last seen in Shahid Kapoor starrer Kaminey. In the 2009 actioner, he played the role of Mujeeb.
