Triptii Dimri-Siddhant Chaturvedi’s Dhadak 2 In Limbo Due To Caste-related Theme, CBFC Mulling Over Scene Cuts

Triptii Dimri and Siddhant Chaturvedi starrer Dhadak 2 was initially scheduled to release in November 2024. The film’s release was postponed and was announced to hit the big screens on March 14, coinciding with Holi 2025. However, recent reports claim that the film is stuck with CBFC formalities which might cause a further delay in its release. No official announcement about the same has been made yet.

Dhadak 2 makers announced that their movie has been postponed and will now be released in 2025, leading to speculations of a Holi release. However, with less than 3 weeks remaining in the festival, there is no promotion and no pre-release buzz for the film leading to murmur regarding its delay. As per reports, the makers are focusing on getting CBFC clearance before commencing the promotions of the film.

Speaking to Bollywood Hungama, a source close to the movie production shared, “Dhadak 2 deals with caste issues and is supposed to be a shocking tale. The Examining Committee (EC) of the CBFC applauded the makers for such a film. But due to its content, they are mulling over what rating should be given to the film and what scenes to be cut, if any.”

Speaking to the publication, the source in the know explained that if the CBFC formalities are completed, Dhadak 2 will be released on Holi. The report read, “The makers of Dhadak 2 want to get the censor process completed and only then start the promotions. They probably don’t want a situation wherein they announce a release date and then the censor issues cause a delay. Hence, if they get a clearance from CBFC, the film might still make it on March 14. Or else, the film might get pushed. A clearer picture should emerge in the next 5-10 days.” If it does release on Holi, the Triptii Dimri starrer will clash with John Abraham’s The Diplomat which has been pushed to March 14 release.

However, the CBFC certification delay comes as a shock to the makers since the film is a remake of the original 2018 movie Pariyerum Perumal which did nor have a run-in with the censor board. Addressing the same, the source shared, “Dhadak 2 makers must have made the same film as it’s the same story. When Pariyerum Perumal didn’t face any trouble, why is Dhadak 2 being subjected to harassment?” Pariyerum Perumal is a Tamil language film directed by Mari Selvaraj.
