Trans Actress Hunter Schafer Expresses ‘Shock’ On Being Listed As Male In Her Renewed Passport, Slams Trump’s Gender Policy

Hunter Schafer, a transgender actor known for her role in Euphoria, has slammed President Donald Trump-led administration for listing her as male in her new passport. This has happened after a recent change in policy recognising only two genders – Male and Female. In a TikTok video re-shared on Friday, the actress expressed her disappointment and claimed that despite having female identity documents for nearly 10 years, her renewed passport doesn’t recognise her as ‘Female’.

In the video, Hunter said she had selected ‘Female’ as her gender while filling out the passport papers. Despite this, when she received her passport she was “shocked” to see an “M” mark on her travel documents. Criticising Trump’s new gender policy, the 26-year-old actress said, “I just didn’t think it was actually going to happen.”

“I filled everything out just like I normally would. I put female, and when it was picked up today and I opened it up, they had changed the marker to male,” Schafer said while showing her passport. She further stated that this is real and it’s happening to everyone, no matter their circumstances or how wealthy or white a person is. “It doesn’t really change anything about me or my transness. However, it does make life a little harder,” she added in the video.

She is an American actress and model, who made headlines in 2016 with her activism against the North Carolina bill HB2. She came out as a transgender girl in ninth grade and began transitioning after being diagnosed with dysphoria. On the work front, she made her acting debut as transgender high school student Jules Vaughn in the HBO series Euphoria. Since then, she has starred in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, Cuckoo (2024) and Kinds of Kindness.
