The Diplomat: John Abraham Reveals OTT Platforms ‘Rejected’ And ‘Threw Out’ His Film



John Abraham starrer The Diplomat hit the big screens on March 14, coinciding with the Holi . The film opened to positive reviews from audience and critics as well. In a recent interaction, the actor revealed that OTT platform didn’t find it great and was rejected.

In an interview with The Pinkvilla, John Abraham said, “The loss of faith happens from the studio. So, when a studio sees a film when it goes and does around of OTTs and because a studio may want to mitigate the risk by sending it to an OTT channel when some OTT channels have refused The Diplomat because they didn’t find it great. They didn’t find it good. They rejected the film, they threw it out”.

John further added how The Diplomat post released proved everyone wrong including the OTT platforms. He said, the best thing about his film is that everyone’s expectations were zero, but it straight went to 10. In the film, John Abraham played the role of real-life Indian diplomat JP Singh and his performance has been praised by many.

According to Sacnilk’s report, in the first week, The Diplomat has minted ₹19.15 crore, while worldwide collection is ₹26.80 crore. Highest occupancy has been recorded in Chennai (19.67%),  Pune( 12.75%), Jaipur (11.25%), Hyderabad (10.75%) and Mumbai (8.50%).

The Diplomat, helmed by Shivam Nair, is set against a backdrop of real-life political events. The film explores themes of diplomacy, international relations, and the personal conflicts faced by diplomats. Apart from John Abraham, the film also stars Sadia, Jagjeet Sandhu, Ashwath Bhatt, Prapti Shukla, Sharib Hashmi, Kumud Mishra, Ram Gopal Bajaj, Benjamin Gilani and Vidhatri Band among others.
