Thailand earthquake: In the wake of the devastative earthquake, which originated in Myanmar but impacted adjoining areas, including Bangkok, Thailand’s major city and a key tourism hub in Southeast Asia, the Indian Embassy has released a helpline number that affected Indian nationals can dial to seek the government’s assistance.
Indians stranded in Bangkok and other parts of Thailand are advised to dial +66 618819218 to contact emergency services offered by the Indian Embassy.
“After powerful earthquake tremors were recorded in Bangkok and in other parts of Thailand, the Embassy is closely monitoring the situation in coordination with the Thai authorities,” said the Embassy of India in Bangkok, Thailand on X (formerly Twitter).
The Embassy added that “no untoward” incident involving an Indian citizen has been reported so far and that the situation is being closely monitored. “All members of the Indian Embassy in Bangkok and the Consulate in Chiang Mai are safe,” the Embassy noted in its post, reassuring Indian citizens of safety as Thailand reels from one of the devastating earthquakes of magnitude 7.7 and 6.4.
