Renowned singer Kalpana Raghavendar has reportedly been hospitalised at Holistic Hospital in Hyderabad, following an alleged suicide attempt. According to a media report, the singer consumed sleeping pills on March 2 and was found unconscious at her residence. She was rushed to the hospital and is currently on ventilator support. It is reported that apartment security alerted the residents after the singer failed to answer the door for two days. Her neighbours reportedly informed the police.
As per a media report, the singer’s husband was in Chennai at the time of the incident and rushed to Hyderabad upon being informed.
Tollywood singer Sunitha was snapped arriving at the hospital to meet Kalpana. The reason behind the alleged suicide is yet unknown, but her industry colleagues were seen making their way to the hospital. In a viral video, Sunitha can be seen rushing to Kalpana’s ward. When asked to comment on it, she refused.
She is the daughter of renowned playback singer T. S. Raghavendra. She also has a younger sister Shekinah Shawn (born Prasanna Raghavendar) who is an opera singer. She began her career as a playback singer at the age of 5 and by 2013, she had recorded around 1500 tracks and performed in 3000 shows across the globe. In 2010, she participated in the South Indian singing show Star Singer season 5 and emerged as a winner.
She has collaborated with legendary singers and composers, including Ilaiyaraaja, AR Rahman, S. P. Balasubrahmanyam M. S. Viswanathan and K. V. Mahadevan.
