Motorcycle maker Royal Enfield’s upcoming facility in Cheyyar will have an all-women assembly line, the company’s Chief Executive Officer B. Govindarajan said.

“At Cheyyar, we have built our first all-women assembly line. We are now working towards making Cheyyar Royal Enfield’s first all-women plant, with a 100% female workforce. Our Vallam facility now has the highest number of women employees at any single Royal Enfield facility, which accounts for 26% of the workforce there,” he said in a social media post.

Mr. Govindarajan recalled that when Royal Enfield began its diversity journey a few years back, the company’s gender diversity ratio stood at just 5%.

“Today, we have made significant progress. We’re now at 20% across the organisation. This momentum is tangible, and it’s transforming the way we work,” he added.

“From engineering and manufacturing to management and business roles, there’s a strong and growing presence of women shaping Royal Enfield’s future every day. In FY25 alone, 24% of our new hires were women, surpassing our overall gender diversity target for the year,” Mr. Govindarajan said.

Tamil Nadu accounts for 41% of the women employed in factories across the country, as per the State’s Industries Department policy note for 2025-2026.

In 2023, Ashok Leyland, the flagship company of the Hinduja Group launched its first all-women production line at its Hosur facility.

Bosch India has two functional manufacturing facilities in Tamil Nadu: one at Oragadam (Chennai) with 100% women workers and the other at Gangaikondan, with 80% women workers on the shop floor. Many other companies in the State have more women working in the shop floor.
