Ranya Rao Gold Smuggling Case: Investigators questioned DGP Ramachandra Rao regarding the gold smuggling case. This comes after the actress’ bail hearing was adjourned by the Sessions court. For the uninitiated, DGP Ramachandra Rao is the step-father of the actress and was sent on a compulsory break by the Karnataka State government on March 16.

Ramachandra Rao was sent on compulsory leave with immediate effect by the Karnataka State Government on March 16. Today, he has been questioned in the gold smuggling case. IAS officer Gaurav Gupta-led the investigating team conducted the inquiry. They recorded his statement which is likely to be submitted to the government in the next two days. The government had instructed the committee to submit the report within a week.

The Kannada actress Ranya Rao is currently in judicial custody for her involvement in the gold smuggling. The actress was caught with 14.2 kg gold worth ₹12.56 crore when she arrived in India from Dubai. During her custody, the actress confessed to the charges against her. She told the officials in detail how she received a call from an unknown number and asked her to smuggle gold from Dubai. She further revealed that she learned the trick of smuggling from a YouTube video.

On March 17, a Sessions court adjourned her bail plea to March 19. The hearing comes after the actress alleged that she is being tortured by the DRI officials while in custody. In a petition submitted from Parappana Agrahara Central Prison, she claimed being physically assaulted, slapped multiple times, and denied sleep and food.
