Pritam Sides With BLACKPINK’s Jennie Amid Rani Intro Theme Plagiarism Claims, Netizens Say ‘One Copy Cat Understands Another’



BLACKPINK’s Jennie’s latest song Like Jennie is currently grabbing headlines, after it has been accused of plagiarism by netizens. Now, music composer Pritam has reacted to the copying claims against the k-pop idol and even explained how similarities are bound to happen.

Pritam took to his Instagram handle and  shared a post, in which he wrote, “Rani and Jennie are names that rhyme, so a similar flow in one phrase doesn’t make a copy. In music, minor similarities are bound to happen- whether through rhymes, phrasing or even within the same genre.”

Netizens had mixed reaction to this post and one user wrote, “You’s re ability right Dada”. Another user wrote, “The way JENNIE got dragged because of this and some people are still calling her all kinds of names. People are so inhumane. They just look for anything to hate on this girl….”. “How embarrassing for you”, wrote the third user.

For the unversed, Jennie’s latest song Like Jennie became a hot topic after netizens found similarities between the teaser and Alia Bhatt’s theme song from Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. It starred Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Shabana Azmi, Jaya Bachchan, Dharmendra and Anjali Anand among others. The film released in theatres in 2023.

Like Jennie is from South Korean singer’s debut solo album  Ruby. The song is written by Jennie, Tayla Park, Amanda Kiddo AI Ibanez, Zico, Thomas Pentz and Jorge Alfonso Sr. The album which released on March 7 and it features collaborations with Childish Gambino, Doechii, Dominic Fike, FKJ, Dua Lipa and Kali Uchis. Mantra was released as her lead single, and topped the charts within no time.  This album marks Jennie’s first solo release after departing from YG Entertainment and Interscope Records in 2023.

Jennie had made her debut in South Korean girl group BLACKPINK (Rose, Lisa and Jisoo) in 2016. Apart from showcasing her music skills, she had even made her acting debut in the series The Idol. After parting ways with her agency, the BLACKPINK member had established her own company, Odd Atelier in 2024.
