Everton marked the opening of their new home at Bramley-Moore Dock with a 2-0 win over Brighton on Sunday, a match that also saw Jack Grealish deliver a standout performance on his first Premier League start for the club. On loan from Manchester City, Grealish provided two assists, which was surprisingly as many as he managed across the last two league campaigns combined at City. His first came after a weaving run into the box, setting up Iliman Ndiaye to volley in the opener. The goal carried symbolic weight as well, with Ndiaye having scored Everton’s final goal at Goodison Park before the shift to the new home stadium. Grealish’s influence continued when he laid the ball off for James Garner, whose long-range strike sealed the result. The 29-year-old, once touted to become the face of English football, showed signs of rediscovering his former self in his new chapter in an Everton shirt.Grealish, who was subbed on in the 71st minute of the season opener last week wasted no time in showing just how good he is when he’s firing on all cylinders. The afternoon also brought a moment for Jordan Pickford, who denied Danny Welbeck from the spot. The England goalkeeper again used his trademark tactic of consulting his water bottle, which lists opposition penalty tendencies, before diving to make the stop. His save kept Brighton at bay and saw the 51,759 supporters in the new stadium erput in celebration.
