Oscars 2025: Academy Trolled For Leaving Out Michelle Trachtenberg, Tony Todd During Memoriam Segment



The 97th Academy Awards concluded in Los Angeles. Several celebrities and performers were honoured. However, the organisers are now being slammed for leaving out artists including Gossip Girl star Michelle Trachtenberg, Olivia Hussey and others from the In Memoriam segment.

Organisers leaving out few celebrities from the memoriam segment sparks anger among netizens

The Oscars’ in memoriam segment paid tribute to several honourable name in the film community who died over the last year. However, fans expressed displeasure how they has left out few artists. One user wrote, “I don’t even comprehend how you could leave out these two Icons… #Oscar  #Oscar2025 #TonyTodd #MichelleTrachtenberg”.

Another user wrote, “Leaving out both Tony Todd and Michelle Tratchenberg out of the “In Memoriam”segment  #Oscars2025”.

“NO michelle trachtenberg??? NO shannen Doherty ??? NO Tony Todd???? i’m SICK #Oscars2025,” wrote the third user.

A social media user wrote, “Does #Oscars have some grudge against #BlackChristmas actors? In Memoriam segment ignoring #OliviaHussey and #MichelleTrachtenberg is bizarre… Also snubbed Tony Todd, so maybe it is with horror genre in general? #Oscars2025”.

The Gossip Girl actor Michelle Trachtenberg was found dead at her New York City house on Wednesday, February 26, per AP. She was 39. Her death is believed to be from natural causes, but an autopsy is yet to be conducted. The actress has featured in films including Ice Princess and 17 Again among others.

Final Destination actor Tony Todd died at his home in Marina del Rey, California on November 6, 2024 due to cancer. Todd has featured in Candyman and Transformers: Revenge of the fallen.

Olivia Hussey was suffering from breast cancer in 2008. Then later, the breast cancer returned in 2017. The actress died at her home in Los Angeles on December 27  2024, at the age of 73. 

Olivia has featured in 1968 film Romeo and Juliet, Black Christmas and IT (1990) among others.
