Orry has created a controversy after a hotel filed a complaint against him and his 7 seven friends for drinking alcohol in Katra, the base camp of Vaishno Devi. The Jammu & Kashmir Police booked them under BNS Section 223 for “violating the law of of the land” and “hurting the sentiments of people”. Soon after the news went viral, netizens flooded X (former Twitter) urging the authorities to take strict action against each of them.
A user took to X handle and wrote, “Not Just Orry, Famous Instagram Influencer Cherry Sin Was Also Drinking & Partying In Vaishno Devi, Katra With Orry. If We’re Demanding Action Against Orry Then Equal Belt Treatment Must Be Given To Everyone Involved. Yeh Toh Hai Bhe Humare Jammu Ka.”
Another wrote, “HOLY SHRINE AREN’T PARTY ZONES! Bollywood’s #Orry &friends drinking alcohol & asking for an egg at #ShriMataVaishnoDevi Katra, where even onion & garlic aren’t allowed! Is an insult to Hindu faith! Demand action against #Orry & hotels serving alcohol!”
A user re-shared the video posted by Orry on his Instagram Story, offering a glimpse inside the party at a hotel in Katra. “Mata Vaishno Devi, a revered pilgrimage site, is NOT a Party Destination. This Bollywood Joker #Orry & friends drinking there is a direct insult to the Hindu faith. I urge J&K Govt CM @OmarAbdullah @JmuKmrPolice to take action against the hotel for this disgrace to Maa Vaishno Devi. Video Source Instagram.”
Another hailed action was taken by Jammu & Kashmir Police and wrote, “All National Media Channels Are Covering This Case. Our Message Of Zero Tolerance Against Alcohol In Hindu Shrines Is Delivered Successfully.”
A user re-shared a video of Orry posted on Snapchat where he can be seen on his way to the Vaishno Devi shrine. “At Mata Vaishno Devi, where even onion and garlic aren’t used, this so-called celebrity demands eggs, then shamelessly posts party videos. Is Vaishno Devi temple, a picnic spot for these clowns? How come there is no action against #Orry and his group of friends?”
Meanwhile, a protest has broke out in Katra against Orry for breaking the law.
In the videos from the protest, the activists can be seen burning posters with Orry’s photos on them. Some protestors were also seen thrashing the influencer’s photos with chappals as a mark of their dissent against his actions. Speaking to Republic, President of the Dogra Front, Ashok Gupta shared, “Why is the hotel (where Orry stayed) not being questioned? Someone from the hotel served alcohol and non-veg to the group. The hotel should be banned. Such places that destroy the sanctity of Katra must also be held responsible. Orry does not need to be served notice, he has disrespected the purity of the Vaishno Devi shrine, he must be arrested with immediate effect. Mata VaishnoDevi does not need such devotees. The hotel must be shut down immediately.”
He also reprimanded the hotel for taking more than 24 hours to notify the police and claimed that stringent action must be taken against them.
