Nadaaniyan X Review: Khushi Kapoor, Ibrahim Starrer Reignites Nepotism Debate, Netizens Call Film ‘Unbearable, GenZ Nonsense’

Nadaaniyan X Review: The Khushi Kapoor and Ibrahim Ali Khan starrer hit the big screens on March 7 on Netflix. The romantic drama is directed by Shauna Gautam and also features Dia Mirza, Jugal Hansraj, Suniel Shetty, Apoorva Mukhija and Mahima Chaudhary in supporting roles. Despite the buzz ahead of the movie’s release, the film was met with mixed to negative reviews from social media users who caught the film early.

The Gen Z rom-com Nadaaniyan, which marks the debut of Ibrahim Ali Khan, the son of Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, has arrived on the streaming medium Netflix. The film revolves around a high schooler Pia Jaisingh (Khushi Kapoor) who pays Arjun Mehta to become her pretend boyfriend, in order to maintain the status quo and get another boy off her back. Throughout the film, the duo navigate through shallow friendships, maintaining relationships in times of social media and managing family expectations.

Social media users who caught the early show of the film took to their X (formerly Twitter) to share their first impressions of the movie. While a few appreciated the movie and heaped praises of Ibrahim Ali Khan’s acting, most reviews remained on the negative side. Netizens alleged that the movie is proof of why nepotism is a big debate in Bollywood. For the unversed, Ibrahim is the son of actors Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh while Khushi is the daughter of Sridevi and Boney Kapoor. Social media users have largely critiqued the acting skills of the lead actors. The presence of Suniel Shetty, Mahima Chaudhry, Dia Mirza, and Jugal Hansraj have impressed netizens and some even called them ‘the only good thing’ in the family.

Sharing her experience of directing her debut project, Shauna Gautam told IANS, “Directing Nadaaniyan has been an incredibly special journey for me, especially as my first film. This story is close to my heart, capturing the innocence and often surprising nature of first love. Working with such an amazing cast, particularly Ibrahim in his debut role, has been an absolute joy. I can’t wait for audiences to witness this fun, heartfelt ride on Netflix.” Made under the direction of Shauna Gautam, Nadaaniyan has been produced under the Dharmatic Entertainment banner.
